Welcome
This website has been set up to give the community information on the process for investigating possible new uses for former ACT Government school and preschool sites.
The project will investigate and recommmend sites, or parts of sites, for retention and/or release, as well as potential land uses.
A separate process to be undertaken by the Government, following this project, will identify organisations which are interested in facilities that are retained and allocated available space.
As part of the Government's Schools Revitalisation Policy, 23 schools and preschools either closed at the end of 2006 or are to be closed over the next two years.
The Government is committed to consulting with the community about the future uses of these former school sites. This website provides you with information about this important project and how you can become involved.
The Government will be consulting the community on the future use of 16 of the 23 schools and preschools that closed or were announced for closure. In addition, two former primary schools that were closed by the Government a number of years ago will be included. As some schools and preschools share a common site there will be 15 separate sites in total. List of school sites.
Input from the community will help decide the best future uses for these valuable resources, but will not be the only consideration.
The Government has appointed a team of consultants, led by Purdon Associates, to undertake the project. The other team members are:
- Elton Consulting
- Maunsell Australia
- Cox Humphries Moss
- SGS Economics and Planning
- ISG Australia
The first session of the local community consultations involving a series of workshops and community information sessions has been completed. The second session of the local consultations involves information displays, which will commence on Monday 19 November and will be conducted over the following two weeks.
General comments and/or comments on specific sites can by made until Monday 3 December 2007.
